Pelaw Community Bowling Club Club Competitions

This is a four-bowl competition played in the same format as outlined above. However, in this competition, some bowlers may be awarded a handicap. Once a player has won any of the four major competition, they are no longer eligible to receive a handicap in future years. Handicaps are determined by the Competition Secretary, who consults with the Club Secretary to ensure that they are applied as fairly and consistently as possible.

In addition Pelaw Community Bowling Club run four compe ons which are generally held on a weekday a ernoon during the season.

Hunter Trophy

This is a fun compe on generally held as the season opener. Players randomly select a disc. One side of the disc indicates the rink on which they will play, and the other side determines their playing posi on. Each player begins with four bowls. The jack for the first end is set at the minimum length. Players deliver their bowls in the order shown on their discs. Once all bowls have been played, the player whose bowl is furthest from the jack loses their bowl. If a bowl is delivered directly into the ditch at the far end of the rink, that player loses that bowl and the end is completed. At the conclusion of each end, the player whose bowl is closest to the jack delivers the jack for the next end and plays the first bowl. The remaining players follow in the order determined by the numbers on their discs. Play con nues un l only one player remains on each rink. The remaining players then reselect a disc and play a semi-final, following the same format. The semi-finals are played across two rinks to determine the two finalists. The winner of the final is declared the winner of the trophy.

Bob Burn Vase

This is a 2-bowl competition. It is a veterans competition played by members over the age of 55. The draw is made on the day by the Veterans Secretary. Each player will play individual games against other club members on a knockout basis. In this game players are not playing to a score of 18, but play a limited number of ‘ends’. The winner moves on to the next round. Eventually a final is played, generally over 11 ends.

Veterans 4 Bowl Competition

This is a 4-bowl competition , played in the same manner as above.

Smith Pairs Trophy

This is a fun competition played at the end of the season. Club officials prepare cards based on the number of players taking part. Each card names one of the club’s top players.The remaining players then randomly select a card without knowing who their partner will be. The player named on the card becomes their partner, creating the teams for the competition. Each team plays a round-robin format, with every team competing against the others. The winning team is the team that wins the greatest number of games. In the event of a tie, the winner will be determined by shot difference.
